Samia Suluhu Hassan katika Mkutano wa uzinduzi wa Kampeni ya Jopo la Viongozi wa Juu kuhusu Programu ya Uwekezaji katika Sekta ya Maji Barani Afrika uliofanyika kando ya Mkutano wa Baraza Kuu la 78 la Umoja wa Mataifa Jijini New York nchini Marekani.
Ametoa wito kwa jumuiya ya kimataifa kushirikiana na Tanzania katika kukusanya rasilimali fedha ili kukamilisha uwekezaji katika sekta ya maji kwa kuzingatia tayari Tanzania imedhamiria kukusanya takribani asilimia 43 ya rasilimali fedha kutoka katika vyanzo vya mapato ya ndani ili kufanikisha uwekezaji huo.
Makamu wa Rais amesema Tanzania kama moja ya watekelezaji wa programu hiyo imeandaa programu ya uwekezaji katika sekta ya maji (TanWIP) ambayo inatarajiwa kutekelezwa kuanzia mwaka 2024 – 2030.
Aidha ametaja malengo ya uwekezaji huo kuwa ni pamoja na kuhakikisha usalama wa maji wa Taifa, uhimilivu katika athari za mabadiliko ya tabianchi pamoja na upatikanaji wa maji ya kutosha.
Makamu wa Rais amesema kampeni ya uwekezaji katika sekta ya maji ilioyozinduliwa Jijini New York itasaidia kukusanya rasilimali zinazohitajika zaidi kwa ajili ya utekelezaji wa programu ya uwekezaji katika sekta ya maji Barani Afrika.
Amesema uwekezaji katika sekta ya maji utahitaji kuongezwa ili kufikia sehemu ya malengo ya maendeleo endelevu inayohusiana na maji safi na salama.
